I am very pleased to announce that we had a very successful Gala Day this year; not only did the sun shine and the crowds appear but we raised the amazing total of £2,250! This is a fantastic amount and will boast school funds and allow us to continue to provide a wide range of experiences to the children free of charge. This event would not have been such a success without the time and donations given by lots of members of the school community. A big thank you to Glen Oaks for sponsoring and marshalling the Fun Run which this year was free to recognise the work the children did in supporting The Commonwealth Games. They also provided medals and goody bags for the children. Toys R Us allowed Geoffrey the Giraffe the morning off to start the race and, he was a great favourite for pictures and selfies! Sainsbury’s provided water and bananas for the runners which were gratefully received at the end of the race. GHA donated a large sum to the school which used to provide a magician and Animal Magic with the remainder going to school funds. The Parent Council worked very hard to get fabulous raffle prizes which made the raffle tickets sell like hot cakes – a big thank you to them and to many local businesses for their support. Mr Beaton provided music on the day which contributed to the party atmosphere. Thank you to the parents who donated home baking, contributed to the tombola and gave their time on stalls. Also to all staff and their families and children from the school who gave their time on to man stalls and help organise the event – a very big thank you.
Darnley After School Service sponsored the annual Gala Day Football Tournament, which saw mixed teams of
P7 children from Darnley and St Angela’s play in an afternoon tournament to see who the Gala champions were. After extra time and penalties, the Destroyers were triumphant. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to DASS for their continued support of both schools.
